The Spring Hill area of Somerville has always been seen to be desirable among buyers and this trend has only increased since the Braintree-Alewife segment of the “Red Line” on the MBTA’s “T” subway system carved out a station in Davis Square in 1984. Davis is now well established and the introduction of the T station has forever changed the standard of living for the surrounding neighborhood and its commercial and residential property prices.

Spring Hill is located to the east of Davis Square and, like Davis Square, it borders parts of Cambridge. You will find a similar variety of residential housing (triple decker, condo apartments, single family homes) in Spring Hill as you’d find in Cambridge and other parts of Somerville. The prices will not be much different, but in some locations you may have a view of Boston from your deck or upper levels.

The Somerville Armory Arts Center at 191 Highland Ave has become a local cultural hub with live music performances, a winter farmer’s market, poetry readings, and more. There is even ample parking in the back of the building.

Need more? Stroll up Highland Avenue to The Highland Kitchen, located at the corner of Highland and Central. Great food, drink, and Sunday brunch. During the week, just remember, the doors do not open until 5pm. The line out front will be your best “tell” that the Highland Kitchen is worth a try.

Spring Hill is also home to The Round House, which is a unique architectural “round” structure and there aren’t many around. “The Round House is a cylindrical wood-frame residential structure at 36 Atherton Street in the Spring Hill neighborhood of Somerville, Massachusetts, USA. It was built in 1856 by hardware manufacturer Enoch Robinson, and is considered an offshoot of the Octagon House style popularized by phrenologist Orson Fowler.” ~ Wikipedia entry
